Child care expenses can be claimed as a deduction when you file your personal income taxes. A tax deduction reduces the income on which you are taxed and so will reduce the amount of tax you pay.
On top of this deduction, Ontario residents with incomes up to $150,000 can now claim the Ontario Child Care Tax Credit. This is a refundable tax credit, which means that it can, depending upon your circumstances, either decrease the amount of tax owing at tax time or increase your refund. Make sure to keep your receipts and pass them along to your tax preparer!
